Funky Halloween, volumes 1-3...
When it comes to great Halloween music, DJ Rubberfunk's trilogy of Funky Halloween mixes remains a tradition -- and one I tend to play for the whole family and blast on the front porch during pumpkin carvings. Rubberfunk is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist musical talent, with four solo albums. He's also quite a seasonal mix master, with some great funky Christmas and Valentine's mixes as well. But his Halloween mixes are simply supurb.
Dr Rubberfunk's Funky Halloween Vol.1kicks off with an extended sample of Peter Cushing's reading of Dracula, before descending into a funky mix that includes an awesome opening funk track by The Witchdoctor, some bluesy consideration of bad luck and bad signs, before things get a bit heavier with some Run DMC and Cypress Hill. Dive right in here:
Dr Rubberfunk's Funky Halloween Vol.2 delivers provides more seasonal, spooky goodness -- this time with the likes of the Ohio Players and Doctor John. He drops in Superstition and some old-school hip-hop:
Finally, Dr Rubberfunk's Funky Halloween Vol.3 completes the trilogy of funky terror, this time with a spirited reading of Shelley's Ode to the West Wind by Vincent Price. It's another hour+ of Halloweeny funk:
Of the three, Vol.1 is my absolute favorite -- but all three make for a solid autumn evening's listening. You can't go wrong with any of these. If you want to keep up with the good doctor, venture over to his website and check out his Bandcamp page.
