One more we return to the dank crypt of Spanish B-movies...
In this episode of Weirdhouse Cinema, we discuss Assignment Terror, a 1970 Spanish-German-Italian horror film that absolutely brings everything to the table in terms of ideas: vampires, werewolves, the monster of Farancksalan, an undead mummy and multiple fiendish alien plots that don't quite pan out. It’s one of the many Paul Naschy werewolf movies featuring the doomed Count Waldemar Daninsky, and it also stars Michael Rennie in his final performance.
You'll remember Paul Naschy from our previous episode on 1973's Horror Rises From the Tomb. Naschy has less time to shine in this film, as he's just one of four monsterts, but he still gets to engage in two emotional werewolf transformations and a doomed love story.
As I mention in the episode, the Scorpion Releasing Blu-ray of the film is great, but you can find the film digitally as well. It's a colorful, goofy good time.
We have more Weirdhouse Cinema coming your way! In the meantime, be sure to check out the merch store and follow us on Letterboxd! All the movies we've covered are listed there in our list and you can click "read notes" to get links to the individual episodes posted here.
