Weirdhouse Cinema: Attack of the Puppet People

Another year, another miniaturization movie...

Last week on Weirdhouse Cinema, we discussed 1957's The Incredible Shrinking Man and this week we discuss Bert I. Gordon's 1958 cash-in on its popularity. Yes, Mr. B.I.G. goes small with Attack of the Puppet People a movie that only arguably features "puppet people" who don't attack anyone.

As we discuss, the film doesn't have too much in common with The Incredible Shrinking Man, and actually feels more like a demented puppeteer/doll-maker picture that draws from 1940's Dr. Cyclops and 1935's Bride of Frankenstein. It's a pretty light spectacle film for the most part and is pretty fun once it gets rolling.

What's next on Weirdhouse Cinema? We'll be discussing 1984's The Neverending Story. In the meantime, be sure to check out the merch store and follow us on Letterboxd! All the movies we've covered are listed there in our list and you can click "read notes" to get links to the individual episodes posted here.
