Weirdhouse Cinema: Chopping Mall

An historical document about shopping malls and killer robots...

Consider this a holiday episode of Weirdhouse Cinema, as we venture into the cathedrals of consumerism that have long been central to American Christmas traditions: the shopping mall. Though, in this case, we're actually venturing into The Chopping Mall.

Directed by Jim Wynorski, this 1986 killer robot movie features a packed cast of b-movie icons and -- in theory -- all the almonds and almond-related products you might wish to purchase on your trip to the Park Plaza 2000 Shopping Center.

There's so much to love in this one -- from its setting and sheer 80s-ness to performances by Barbara Crampton, Mary Woronov, Gerrit Graham, Dick Miller and more. Plus it's a Cormon production with a Roger Corman movie -- Attack of the Crab Monsters -- featured within the movie itself.

You can rent or buy this one wherever you get your films these days (I watched it on Prime) -- and there's also a loaded special edition Blu-ray as well. You can find this episode of Weirdhouse Cinema in the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast feed, or stream it below:

What's up next on Weirdhouse Cinema? I'll give you a hint: It's a 1990 film about giant robots that we actually mention during this episode. So watch ahead if you wish...
