In which Warhawk Tanzania battles the forces of evil beneath New York City...
An ancient demon haunts the subways of New York City, fostering violent conflict in the streets above. Only one man has the martial arts skill to battle the creature in the depths. On this episode of Weirdhouse Cinema, we dive discuss Devil's Express, 1976 genre mashup and its star player, Warhawk Tanzania. Let's dive right in with the episode and an embed of the trailer:
This film has a lot of great things going for it: the alleged star power of Warhawk Tanzania, martial arts battles, a cameo by Brother Theodore and an ancient demon. But it ALSO features the music of disco super-producer Patrick Adams. A 2017 Guardian profile described him as “the 'underground disco' super-producer whom DJs still adore.”
You have almost certainly heard some of the songs her worked on, perhaps in another movie. They include Touch Me (All Night Long) performed by Fonda Rae and the band Wish from 1984 -- which was a minor hit and went on to be featured in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge.
Other tracks that he had a hand include Dance, Dance, Dance by Marta Acuna, In The Bush by Musique, Keep on Jumpin by Musique (also the name of the 78 album -- great stuff!), Till You Surrender by Rainbow Brown and many others.
Devil's Express is widely available on YouTube, TUBI and Prime. Code Red also put out a BluRay of the movie, which uses 2016 2K Scan Of The Original Negatives. And hey, don't forget to check out the new Weirdhouse Cinema merch. Shirts are coming soon.
