"We've got robots, we've got cavemen, we've got kung-fu..."
We’re going back to the year 1986 – a banner year for genre films – and we’re also going back to the filmography of Peter Manoogian and producer Charles Band. It's Eliminators, a film of pure, dumb 80s sci-fi action excess that truly manages to cram a lot in: a tank-centaur cyborg, a flying robot, martial arts action, mad science, time travel, cavemen and tons of BOATS. I don't think anyone really goes into this film expecting so much river action.
This was a fun one to discuss and I truly enjoyed the performances of Andrew Prine (playing a Romancing the Stone-esque river rogue character) and Denise Crosby (as a beautiful roboticist). Roy Dotrice is also a lot of fun as the villain and the "mandroid" effects are very entertaining.
And if you enjoyed the Waxfactor track Sci-Fu-Ism at the end of the episode, check out my post about the album -- which also includes the text of an old interview I conducted with the artist himself. Here's his Instagram.
