Weirdhouse Cinema: Gunhed

In which we discuss the 1989 Japanese cyberpunk tanksploitation film...

Yep, it's mech time once again on Weirdhouse Cinema, as we discuss the gritty, industrial world of the 1989 Toho film Gunhed. Yep, that's Gun UNit of Heavy Eliminate Device. It's a chance to discuss a couple of interesting cast members, Japanese cyberpunk, sci-fi tanks and the made-up element Texmexium. You can listen to the episode here or in the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast feed.

I'll let the discussion speak for itself, but here are some of the bits of media that we discuss in the episode:

Kappa by Miki Curtis and the Samurai (1971 Japanese prog-rock)

Here's the Discog link and the Progarchives listing.

Music video for Mindphaser by Front Line Assembly (1992)

And if you want to see that Kotobukiya Gunhed model, you can pull it up here and here. It's a beauty, though it's also imported and out of print, so it don't come cheap.

Next week on Weird House Cinema, we're featuring a rewind of a favorite episode from early in the WHC run, but we'll be back with something new after that. I'll update here when I know, but I'm looking at a handful of 80s and 90s films.
