The ultimate occult power couple won’t let death stand in their way!
Once more we descend into 70s Spanish cinema, after covering Return of the Blind Dead and The Loreley's Grasp previously. There will be some familiar notes!
Dreary rural settings... The consumption of human hearts... Ancient, resurrected evil...
But 1973’s Horror Rises From the Tomb presents some new elements for sure, as well as the presence of Spanish horror icon Paul Naschy -- who plays not one, not two but THREE parts in the film. It's all more to be experienced than comprehended, but the movie is absolutely at its best when resurrected warlock Alaric and his resurrected lover Mabille (played by Helga Liné) are on a bloody, seductive, heart-ripping rampage through the countryside.
OK, what's next on Weirdhouse Cinema? We're planning to discuss the 1970 Czech Adam & Eve art film Fruit of Paradise. "In the meantime, be sure to check out the merch store and follow us on Letterboxd!
