The film that revitalized Vincent Price as a horror icon...
In this installment of Weirdhouse Cinema, we continue our three-week look at 3-D films with a movie that ignited an early-50s 3-D boom AND launched Vincent Price on his way to becoming a top horror icon. While last week's selection -- Treasure of the Four Crowns -- was an obvious 3-D spectacle cash-grab, House of Wax is an excellently-made Gothic horror tale that benefits from added 3-D thrills and depth while by no means depending on it for cinematic impact.
Plus, we get to see a young Charles Bronson grapple everyone in sight AND a pre-Adams Family Carolyn Jones dolls it up. Amazing make-up in this one as well.
Up next on Weirdhouse Cinema? We'll be watching one final 3-D film: 1961's The Mask. In the meantime, be sure to check out the merch store and follow us on Letterboxd! All the movies we've covered are listed there in our list and you can click "read notes" to get links to the individual episodes posted here.
