We go 3D with 1983's Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn
In today's episode of Weirdhouse Cinema we return to the cinematic world of Charles Band with his 1983 Road Warrior-esque apocalyptic space opera starring Richard Moll, Michael Preston, Tim Thomerson and Kelly Preston. It's loaded with cool, weird elements and even if the connective material isn't all there, it still makes for fun viewing.
Let's start with that excellent trailer, narrated by the voice of god himself Don LaFontaine --- and then we'll hit the podcast episode itself.
The film cashed in on the 3D boom of 1982 and 1983, when several major film franchises just happened to be busting out their lackluster third offerings. I'd say Jared-Syn is more worth your time than Jaws 3D, even if -- as we discuss in the episode -- Jared-Syn isn't actually destroyed in this film. The costumes are really good and the effects are entertaining.
I’m not sure you can stream this anywhere right now, but keep an eye out for it. The Shout Factory Blu-ray (2016) is awesome and widely available. We rented ours from Videodrome.
In other Weirdhouse Cinema News, we have a new logo exclusive to the Weirdhouse episodes! I think we're going to try to apply these to the individual episodes moving forward next week -- and we'll probably bust out some limited merch, just for fun. But here it is:
As for next week on Weirdhouse Cinema? We'll be discussing the world's only Hawaiian werewolf movie: 1978's Deathmoon. You can watch the full movie on YouTube with Dutch subtitles right here.
