Waldemar Daninsky takes on Elisabeth Bathory in another Naschy classic...
Once more on Weirdhouse Cinema, we return to the realm of Spanish horror and, specifically, the filmography of Paul Naschy. We previously discussed Horror Rises From the Tomb and Assignment Terror, and this week we follow it up with 1981's Night of the Werewolf.
It's a pretty solid and highly entertaining century-spanning gothic horror tale, in which the tragic Daninsky (played by Paul Naschy, of course) wrestles with his own lycanthropic curse, his past servitude to the murderous Countess Bathory, the trappings of love and -- naturally -- an undead evil that might just turn the world into a living hell.
Now, as mentioned in the episode, score for Night of the Werewolf is cobbled together from other film scores, including the excellent track Too Risky A Day For A Regatta by Stelvio Cipriani, from his score for the 1977 Jaws ripoff Tentacles.
