You are about to experience the outer reaches of future shock...
This week on Weirdhouse Cinema, we finally venture into the filmography of legendary prophet of weird David Cronenberg with 1981's Scanners. While many remember or know this one just for its famous exploding head sequence, the entire picture is a well-crafted psychic conspiracy thriller. Plus, the Howard Shore score is a tremendous mixture of traditional and electronic elements.
As we discuss, there's a single plot development in the picture that doesn't make all that much sense -- at least not with the film's era of technology --- but overall it held up really well for both of us and we found ourselves far more enthralled by our re-watches than expected.
Up next on Weirdhouse Cinema, we'll be keeping it Canadian, celebrating another Friday the 13th AND we'll be doing our 100th film selection with our first pick from the 21st century: Jason X. In the meantime, be sure to check out the merch store and follow us on Letterboxd! All the movies we've covered are listed there in our list and you can click "read notes" to get links to the individual episodes posted here.
