Yes, it's the 1993 dystopian cyberpunk adaptation of the classic Nintendo game...
In this episode of Weirdhouse Cinema, we continue this year's fora into the 1990s with the doomed live-action take on the Super Mario game franchise, complete with violent plumbers, highly-evolved dinosaur mutants, dystopian government and Mojo Nixon. As we discuss in the episode, Super Mario Bros. is such a weird mess of unique vision and weird choices for what is supposed to be a movie for children.
Up next on Weirdhouse Cinema? We cover another Dennis Hopper film in 1966's Queen of Blood. In the meantime, be sure to check out the merch store and follow us on Letterboxd! All the movies we've covered are listed there in our list and you can click "read notes" to get links to the individual episodes posted here.
