Weirdhouse Cinema: Teens in the Universe

It's Soviet Science versus Fun on an alien world...

It's Friday, so that means more Weirdhouse Cinema. This one is our first Russian selection: A Soviet science fiction film for children, but one with a serious-minded premise at heart. It's Teens in the Universe or Children in the Universe, depending on your translation.

There's so much to talk about with this one that our episode is actually longer than the movie. As you can tell from the still, the visuals in this 70s space jaunt are incredible. So many wonderful robots in this one.

As usual, you can find Weirdhouse Cinema in the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast feed wherever you get your podcasts -- but you can also stream it below:

As for the movie itself, you can buy it on Prime for 99 cents, or stream it for free right here as well:

And as for next week? Well, it's going to be a brain-themed week on STBYM, so of course we're doing a brain movie -- and it's our first Canadian selection: 1988's The Brain.

Great episode! "Jumpsuits make everything cooler." 🤣

I enjoyed contrasting the movie to the live--action Saturday morning shows in the US from the late 1970s like "Jason of Star Command" and "Space Academy." "Teens In The Universe" was much more entertaining and thought-provoking than those series, and it had funkier robots than the lame Peepo (an R2D2 clone) and Wiki.

Keep up the good work!
