A 1988 Canadian horror movie with a big 'ol brain .
STBYM had a real brain-themed week, so Weirdhouse Cinema kept the energy going with an episode on the 1988 Canadian monster movie The Brain, starring the villainous David Gale, the beastly George Buza and of course a big 'ol brain monster that eats people and controls your mind through self-help television.
It's a fun film with some Cronenberg-lite sensibilities, but mostly it's all about dat brain. I'm going to run through some of the key media worth discussing here. First up, there's not really an English trailer that I can find, but Shout Factory has a killer Blu-ray of The Brain, so they share this clip:
Up next, I want to highlight that music! Paul Zaza's electronic score hits all the right notes and don't sleep on the pop single from this one, Right Now (You Better Show Me You Mind). You can stream it everywhere:
One more additional note on this episode: We get to discussing the films of Eric Roberts and I mention that he's in one of the better Lovecraft films. In case you're wondering what I was talking about, I was wrong! I was confusing Eric Roberts with Chris Sarandon. I suppose it's the fact that they're both weird-looking leading men type with connections to far-more-famous female actors. The movie in question is 1991's The Resurrected.
What's up next on Weirdhouse Cinema? Well, we're going to be Freejacking it.
