Weirdhouse Cinema: The Dunwich Horror (1970)

Dive into the groovy goodness of this post-Woodstock Necronomicon movie...

I've been wanting to cover The Dunwich Horror for a while now, in part because of its stylish, hippie vibes and in part because of Dean Stockwell's presence as the haunted lead. I'd already taken Stockwell's character on as a mustache hero for my participation in Movember this year, and when Stockwell passed away on Nov. 7, I knew it was time to watch the film. So this one's for you, Dean.

It's a weirdly hippie or anti-hippie take on Lovecraftian horror -- and Stockwell is wonderful as a suave creeper who is only interested in you so he can bring the great old ones back to rule the Earth. Let's have the episode and the trailer:

OK, let's talk music. Les Baxter's score is tremendous -- and I'll embed that first. But we also mention that there's an Electric Wizard track based on the film as well. So I'm throwing that in, along with the music video that Electric Wizard put out, composed entirely of clips from this film:

What's next on Weirdhouse Cinema? Joe is picking something out and he is still deciding! But we'll be in December and I already have a holiday slasher picked out for us. Maybe some other holiday weirdness will occur as well? We're always open to suggestions.
