Dutch filmmaker Dick Maas’ 1983 killer elevator movie...
On this week's Weirdhouse Cinema episode, we dive into our first full-blown Dutch film: Dick Maas' 1983 killer elevator movie De lift. It's a terrific little film, full of great elevator scares, weird sci-fi twists, unexpectedly contemplative character building and some b-movie ridiculousness. Huub Stapel does a fine job as our protagonist and acclaimed Dutch actor Willeke van Ammelrooy plays an inquisitive journalist who thinks these elevator deaths MIGHT just be connected to an evil technology corporation.
As the above video indicates, you can catch The Lift on Blu-ray from Blue Underground, but it's also currently streaming on the Full Moon channel.
We mention several of Maas' other films in the episode, from his action film Amsterdamned to the American remake of The Lift starring Naomi Watts. So I'm going to hit you with those trailers next:
What's up next on Weirdhouse Cinema? I'll update it here as soon as I know. Remember that the show now has its own Instagram page (linked at the top of this website) and you can follow the link tree there to access the STBYM podcast feed as well as merch.
