Weirdhouse Cinema: The Maze

The 1953 gothic horror film with one of the weirdest endings you could ask for...

On this week's Weirdhouse Cinema, we dive back into the 1950s (our seventh film selection from that decade this year) AND back into the world of 3-D features. It's The Maze, directed by noted production designer William Cameron Menzies. As we discuss, the movie is notable for its bizarre ending, so it's worth hanging in for that. The movie is based on the book by Maurice Sandoz and the original 1945 publication included original illustrations by legendary surrealist Salvador Dalí. You can see some of the images in this eBay listing.

What's up next on Weirdhouse Cinema? Heck, let's do our most recent film yet with 2022's The Viewing from Panos Cosmotos. In the meantime, be sure to check out the merch store and follow us on Letterboxd!
