You are cordially invited to a discussion of the 2022 Panos Cosmostos short...
In this episode of Weirdhouse Cinema, we tread dangerously close to modern day with last year's The Viewing, a short from film from contemporary psychotronic auteur Panos Cosmotos created for Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities. It's a sonic and visual delight, has a really fun cast and some surprising monstrosities.
I'm a big fan of Cosmators' weird vision, which thus far also includes the deeply psychotronic Beyond the Black Rainbow and the wild revenge film Mandy. We don't cover many 21st century films, but he's one of the best weird filmmakers today in my opinion and I felt like Weirdhouse needed to dip into his offerings.
We mention the film Blue Sunshine in our discussion, which you can learn more about here. We naturally discuss the score from The Viewing by Daniel Lopatin, the artist behind Oneohtrix Point Never, and you can listen to it here:
What's up next on Weirdhouse Cinema? Joe has a short list of movies he's considering and we're figuring out which one calls to us. In the meantime, be sure to check out the merch store and follow us on Letterboxd! All the movies we've covered are listed there in our list and you can click "read notes" to get links to the individual episodes posted here.
