H.G. Wells chases Jack the Ripper through time to San Francisco...
On today's Weirdhouse Cinema, we discuss Nicholas Meyer's 1979 film Time After Time, starring Malcolm McDowell as sci-fi author H.G. Wells and David Warner as Jack the Ripper. It's a super fun time travel film full of romance and intrigue, but it also provides us with an excuse to talk about time travel fiction as a whole -- and just a dash of Ripperology.
It was also a lot of fun to chat about McDowell, Warner and Mary Steenburgen's careers -- and speculate just how important this film might be within the broader sub-genre of time travel romance.
The trailer for this one's not my favorite, so I'm going to instead embed one of my favorite scenes along with the podcast episode:
Just a reminder that there IS Weirdhouse Cinema merch, if you're so inclined. What's up next for us? We'll be discussing 1951's The Thing From Another World.
