It's Home Alone, except with Oliver Reed, Klaus Kinski and a killer snake...
On Weirdhouse Cinema, we tend not to go too deep on troubled production stories and difficult actors. The focus is more on what's strange and what works. But sometimes... sometimes a movie comes along that just looks like too much of a train wreck to look away. That's 1981's Venom, which starred THREE different reportedly difficult actors (of varying degrees): Klaus Kinski, Oliver Reed and Nicol Williamson.
Fortunately, the film is loads of fun and all three actors put in solid performances -- as does the movie's TRUE star: an actual black mamba, one of the world's largest and deadliest venomous snakes. There's never a dull moment, even if the danger of snek feels exaggerated to outrageous proportions.
Here's a link to the California Herps page about the snakes we see in the film. Again, that's a great website to check out anytime snakes slither their way across your screen. And here's the novel it's based on.
Next week we continue our Movember trend of showcasing films with strong moustaches in them. It will be 1970's The Dunwich Horror, starring Dean Stockwell, who sadly just passed away this month.
